Benefits of Onions

ASUU strike was called off and preparation to go back to school started. I was happy and at the same time not happy about the resumption. 😂😂

School life is sweet but can be boring and strenuous as well. While chatting with one of my roommates, she asked me to come back quickly so as to start preparing ONION STEW as I have always done.. Hehehehe, oh yeah, onion stew is the name.

There is nothing special about the stew, only that it contains 70% of onions and 30% pepper.

I prefer to grind the onion rather than slicing so that I will have much quantity of stew that will last for nothing less than 4 days(student’s life though).

I just don’t know how I suddenly develop interest for onions. Long before now, I so hate onions especially sliced onions inside jollof rice or fried egg. I will pick the onions while eating and throw them away.

I also hate the fact that onions do make eyes teary especially when using local grinding stone.

Nevertheless, onions are loaded with great and numerous benefits.
Onions(Allium cepa) can be eaten raw, cooked, fried, dried or roasted. They are commonly used as a flavouring and seasoning agent in many dishes.

= Onions are members of lily family just like garlic.
Onions, when combined with garlic, could have greater benefits. The two, together, are known to be effective antidepressants and anti-inflammatory.

= Onions help reduce bacteria that cause tooth decay when eaten raw but one negative side of onions is that they can cause bad breath just like garlic. Hence, it’s advisable to wash your mouth thoroughly after consuming onions.

= Onions have been said to be used by ancient people to prevent cold

= Onions also possess antibiotic effects that can accelerate wound healing. Any kinds of insect bite, bee bites, infections, septic etc can be treated with the help of raw onion juice.

One other reason why I grow to love onions is it’s benefits on the hair.
I had once used onions for my hair and the result was super-amazing

= It has been found that onions are effective not just for treating dandruff and thinning of hair but also for increasing the growth of our hair.

= Onion juice is also very good for the damaged scalp. Apply some raw onion juice with any natural oil to your scalp and rinse off with lukewarm water after 30 minutes.

= It also help in the treatment of hair loss. All you do is either cook or grind the onions and strain to get the juice. Add with your natural oil and apply to your hair . Leave for few hours and wash off with shampoo
